The Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA) is headquartered in Dakar, Senegal. It was established in 1973 as an independent pan-African research organisation primarily focusing on social sciences research in Africa.

It is recognised not only as the pioneer African social research organisation but also as the apex non-governmental centre of social knowledge production on the continent.

The African Development Fund (ADF) is the concessional window of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group. Established in 1972, it became operational in 1974. Administered by the African Development Bank, it comprises, to date, 32 contributing countries and benefits 38 countries. The 38 ADF-eligible countries include those that are increasing their economic capacities and heading toward becoming the new emerging markets—as well as those that remain fragile and need special assistance for basic levels of service delivery.

ILEG is an independent, non-profit public interest law and policy organization focused on promoting sustainable development. We work with local communities, governments, the private sector and civil society organizations (CSOs) to ensure fair, balanced and equitable development policy choices to improve peoples’ lives and protect the environment. Our work seeks to transform the way governments make decisions that affect the environment and natural resources on which livelihoods depend.

AfriCOG is headed by an Executive Director accountable to a five-member Board of Directors. The secretariat consists of staff organised functionally across two main function areas. The first area is programmes. This branch consists of staff dedicated to developing, implementing and monitoring AfriCOG’s programmeactivities built around the core functions of: Research; Advocacy and Partnerships; and Dissemination and Linkages[1].

Uraia is the premier National Civic Education Organisation in Kenya. It has been in existence since 2000 and has been working to contribute towards the progress of Kenya through the development of Kenya’s most important resource – Kenyans.

Mokoro is pleased to host the ’Land Rights in Africa’ site as a contribution to the land rights dialogue and related debates. This website was created in January 2000 by Robin Palmer, and was originally housed by Oxfam GB, where Robin worked as a Land Rights Adviser. A library of resources on land rights in Africa – with a particular focus on women’s land rights and on the impact of land grabbing in Africa – the portal has been well received by practitioners, researchers and policy makers, and has grown considerably over the years.

CONJUNTURA AUSTRAL é uma publicação Trimestral, em formato digital, vinculada ao Programa de Pós-Graduação em Estudos Estratégicos Internacionais (PPGEEI) da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). Front Line Defenders

Front Line Defenders was founded in Dublin in 2001 with the specific aim of protecting human rights defenders at risk (HRDs), people who work, non-violently, for any or all of the rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights(UDHR). Front Line Defenders addresses the protection needs identified by HRDs themselves.


Pambazuka News is an open access, Pan-African e-mail and online electronic newsletter. It is published weekly in English, Portuguese and French by Fahamu. The word Pambazuka means 'dawn' or 'arise' in Kiswahili. Since its inception in 2000, its mission has been to provide a platform for social justice in Africa, for example, by promoting human rights for refugees. Pambazuka News provides commentary and analysis on politics and current affairs.
