This report focuses on the promotion of economic growth and improving ecosystem protection within Brazil’s rural landscape.

It argues that there is significant potential for simultaneously promoting both these things, but also that substantial improvements are already underway. It highlights that increasing global demand for food and the need to address climate change risk make it ever more urgent to both protect ecosystems and use land more productively and efficiently. The report argues that well-functioning markets and policies can boost the pace at which these changes are happening and help the country to realise latent land use efficiency gains.

The report is split into three parts focused on the misallocation in Brazilian land use, learning from the past and looking ahead.
