From 9-10 November 2010, the members of ILC in Asia gathered in Bangkok, Thailand for the Second ILC Asia Regional Assembly of Members. The annual gathering provided members with an opportunity to jointly review the activities and achievements of the Coalition and chart strategic directions and a road map of action. Organized by ILC’s regional node host, the Asian NGO Coalition for Agrarian Reform and Rural Development (ANGOC), the assembly brought together representatives from 23 of the 27 member organizations in Asia from both civil society and inter-governmental organizations. It was held at the Regional Office of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

The assembly provided space for members to discuss the Coalition’s global and regional strategies, reflect and debate on priority issues in the region, and formulate a road map for action. The first component of the program centred on updates from the region and the Secretariat, and discussions of key regional priorities. The second component dealt with reflections on pertinent regional and global processes, in particular, the internal review of ILC’s regionalization process in Asia, inputs into the new ILC Strategic Framework, and issues of membership. Finally, the third component dealt with planning, in particular formulation of the ILC Asia road map of action (2011-2015), and annual work plan and budget for 2011.

During the assembly, members formally appointed the Association for Land Reform and Development (ALRD – Bangladesh) as the region's focal organization for gender issues, and the Philippine Association For Intercultural Development, Inc. (PAFID – the Philippines) as the focal organization for indigenous peoples’ issues.

The regional assembly also gave the opportunity to welcome the incoming ILC Asia Regional Node Coordinator, Ms Seema Gaikwad. Ms. Gaikwad, an Indian national with years of experience working in the development sector, formally began her post on 1 December 2010. The members warmly welcomed her and pledged to her their full support.
