De grandes manifestations agricoles ont éclaté dans au moins 65 pays au cours de l'année écoulée. De l'Inde au Kenya en passant par la Colombie et la France, le désespoir a atteint un point de rupture. Les communautés agricoles avertissent qu'en l'absence de meilleurs prix et d'une plus grande protection, leur avenir est menacé. Depuis plus de trente ans, des mouvements paysans comme La Via Campesina dénoncent l'Organisation mondiale du commerce et le nombre croissant d'accords bilatéraux de libre-échange qui détruisent leurs moyens de subsistance.

The Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP) is a regional, intergovernmental and autonomous organisation. The Working Group for women and land ownership (WGWLO), is a network of 41 NGOs, CBOs and individuals in Gujarat, working on the issue of agriculture land ownership from livelihood, security, rights and empowerment angle for women. These are CBOs and NGOs spread in more than 15 districts of Gujarat, working at the rural grass roots level since 2003.
