    There is a direct relationship between women’s right to land, economic empowerment, food security and poverty reduction. A gender approach to land rights can enable shifts in gender power relations, and assure that all people, regardless of sex, benefit from, and are empowered by, development policies and practices to improve people’s rights to land. This brief gives an overview on how to consider gender aspects in projects and programmes addressing land rights.

    The Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act (RFCLARR) was enacted in 2013 replacing the land acquisition policies prevalent in the country since 1894. A year later, the Government of India on December 31, 2014 issued an ordinance making significant changes to the Act including removal of consent clause for acquiring land for areas of industrial corridors, public private partnership (PPP) projects, rural infrastructure, affordable housing and defence.

    The Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Act, 2015 is a legislation in India. It amended the Mines and Minerals (Regulation and Development) Act, 1957 and replaced the ordinance promulgated in January 2015.The bill seeks to bring transparency to the allocation of mining licence process by auctions.


    The Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Ordinance, 2015 was promulgated on 12 January 2015.The bill seeking to replace it was passed in the Lok Sabha on 3 March 2015 and in the Rajya Sabha on 20 March 2015.
