    These Regulations provide rules relative to good agricultural practice to protect waters against pollution from agricultural sources and prescribe measures for these purposes, including: periods when land application of fertilizers is prohibited; limits on the land application of fertilizers; storage requirements for livestock manure; and monitoring of the effectiveness of the measures in terms of agricultural practice and impact on water quality. They also concern minimization and storage of soiled water and ploughing and the use of non-selective herbicides.

    These Regulations prescribe standards for the use of sewage sludge in agriculture. They give effect to Council Directive No. 86/278/EEC relating to the protection of the environment and in particular of the soil when sewage sludge is used in agriculture.
