    This draft model lease contract considers international best practices and recommendations, regarding the design of contract for farmland investments. In particular, the IISD Guide to Negotiating Investment Contract for Farmland and Water, were used as a reference while designing this current draft. Experience gained by BVVG Agriforest Privatization Agency regarding lease contact design is reflected in the draft model contact.

    This Regulation concerns rural land management and rights and use of rural land in Amhara National Region. It seeks to create favourable conditions enabling the land administration system to promote long-lasting agricultural development and productivity in the regional state by causing the full implementation of the rights and obligations pertaining to the rural land holders as are stipulated under the Revised Rural Land Administration and Use Determination Proclamation.

    This Proclamation provides for the lease of urban land. “Urban land” means land located within an administrative boundary of an urban center; “urban center” means any locality having a municipal administration or a population size of 2000 or more inhabitants of which at least 50% of its labor force is engaged in non-agricultural activities. This Proclamation shall be applicable to all urban centers with in Ethiopia with regard to urban land.

    This Regulation of the Council of the Amhara Regional Government establishes the Public Procurement and Property Disposal Service as a Regional government office. The Office shall be involved in the procurement of goods for public bodies and the disposal of goods of public bodies, and shall assist public developmental enterprises with regard to the procurement of goods and services as well as the disposal of property.     This Proclamation provides for a transparent and efficient administration of investment in Ethiopia and mitigating the impacts of environmental pollution relating to investment projects. Any investor shall have the obligation to observe the laws of the country in carrying out his investment activities. In particular, he or she shall give due regard to environmental protection. The provisions of this Proclamation may not be applicable to investments in the prospecting, exploration and development of minerals and petroleum resources.     This peace agreement between Ethiopia and Eritrea ad seeks to resolve the misunderstanding between the parties regarding their common border and establish a neutral Boundary Commission. The parties agree that the delimitation and demarcation determinations of the Commission shall be final and binding. Each party shall respect the border so determined, as well as territorial integrity and sovereignty of the other party. The Agreement also provides for the eatblishment of a a neutral Claims Commission.

    This Proclamation of the Benishangul Gumz Regional State shall apply to any rural land found in the region. It mainly is concerned with land rights land use and administration of rural lands. Land is declared the common property of the state and people and it shall not be subjected to sale or other means of exchange. Any peasant who legally resides in the region shall have the right to hold land irrespective of gender or any other discrimination. Land administration shall be implemented through community participation. Rural land shall not be expropriated unless to use for public services.
