    Land Tenure Considerations in Sri Lanka’s Proposed National REDD+ Strategy

    At the request of the Sri Lankan Government an assessment was designed and conducted as part of the development of the country’s national strategy on REDD+.  The assessment involved applying criteria from the Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries, and Forests (VGGT) to analyze the tenure implications for a wide array of proposed policies and measures (PAMs) to address deforestation and forest degradation.  The assessment will help Sri Lanka to prioritize and make investment decisions among the PAMs.

    This Law regulates relations in the sphere of identification, conservation, management, promotion, public protection, import and export of the objects of cultural heritage thus ensuring the right of Turkmen people to conservation and development of its national identity. Objects of historical and cultural heritage shall be considered those created fifty and more years ago. The Cabinet of Ministers shall set forth rules and regulations concerning ownership, management and disposal of the object of historical and cultural heritage.

    This Law sets forth the legal basis for the establishment and activities of dekhkan farm and is aimed at creating favorable conditions for the development of this economic activity. Dehkan farm shall be subject of entrepreneurship performing production, storage, processing and trade of agricultural commodities; the aforesaid activities are based on the personal labor of one person or joint activity of a group of individuals on a land plot and property belonging thereto.

    Kyrgyz pastureland make up the majority of land mass in the country and are an important resource for most rural people, providing good opportunities for economic growth and poverty reduction. Kyrgyz pastureland reforms devolved management of pastures to local level pasture committees. This case study looks at promising practices and lessons learned from an intervention related to those reforms, that seeking to both promote community management of pasturelands and also promote the interests of women within those communities.

    With changes in weather patterns and intensifying anthropogenic water use, there is an increasing need for spatio-temporal information on water fluxes and stocks in river basins. The assortment of satellite-derived open-access information sources on rainfall (P) and land use/land cover (LULC) is currently being expanded with the application of actual evapotranspiration (ETact) algorithms on the global scale.

    The Afghanistan Agriculture Information Portal (AAIP) is a web data dissemination platform for crop production statistics and crop conditions. It manages spatial (satellite images and thematic layers) and non-spatial data (crop, climatic and hydrologic) that national or sub-national institutions generate or collect regarding crop monitoring. It aims to provide this information useful for decision-making by top management, farmers and other stakeholders in a country like Afghanistan where more than 80% of people.

    This paper summarizes the good practices by nine selected OECD countries that seek to promote responsible foreign investment in developing country agriculture, primarily by investors in their territory or jurisdiction. The study provides examples of the increasing trend of home countries in establishing binding legal norms and other mechanisms as safeguards that are relevant for agricultural investment.

    The relevance of the sustainable use, management and conservation of aquatic genetic resources (AqGR) for food and agriculture is relatively well known and documented, but there is still an urgent need to preserve and better manage existing aquatic diversity to enhance its contribution to food security, nutrition and livelihoods. Aquatic genetic resources for food and agriculture include thousands of species, which are found in the world’s oceans, seas, lakes, reservoirs, rivers, rice paddies and other wetlands, and also in aquaculture facilities in marine, brackish and fresh waters.
