The Minister may, by Order published in the Gazette, vest in the State land that is vested in the Land Reform Commission under the Land Reform Law. The Order shall: (a) specify the extent of agricultural or estate land; (b) make reference to the survey plan made by the Surveyor-General in respect of such land; (c) specify any servitude attaching to such agricultural or estate land.

This Ordinance regulates the mapping of the boundaries of land owned privately or by the State and the application of provisions related therefore.
The Ordinance provides for the institution of Village Councils for the purpose of town development and endorses them with the power to order surveys and dispose of the land, to redistribute it between adjacent villages and to issue land taxes or levyand to provide for all related matters, legal and administrative.
The following Sections of the principal enactment are thereby amended: Sections 55, 63, 96, 101 and the First Schedule (minor amendments).
This Act amends the Land Development Ordinance 1935 which aimed to provide for the systematic development and alienation of State Land in Sri Lanka. Under the amendements, the Government Agent shall not recover any fee for the registration of a permit (sect. 2). Every grant on which land is to be alienated shall contain the extent and description of the boundaries of such land.

This Act amends the Land Development Ordinance and repeals the Sale of State Land (Special Provisions) Law. There are amendments relating to the definitions of terms used within the Act. Section 8 concerns purposes for which State Land may be mapped out including the prevention of erosion from the soil and the protection, conservation and development needs of the area (sect. 8). There are extensive provisions relating to the manner of alienation of State Land including the need for a permit to occupy the land (sect. 19).
The Act amends several sections of the Agrarian Services Act 1979, concerning inter alia the procedure of eviction of paddy lands, the nomination of successors to the rights of tenant cultivators, the effects of transfer of rights of tenant cultivators, the payment and recovery of rent, the Agrarian Services Committees, the Cultivation Officers, the purposes for which paddy land may be used.The following new sections are inserted: (a) 5A and 5B on exemption of paddy lands; (b) 12A on the sale of paddy lands and tenancy rights; (c) 16A on willful neglect of cultivation by the tenant cultivat
The Act establishes the procedure to be followed by the competent authorities for the acquisition of land for public purpose. It includes, among other matters: investigations for selecting land to be carried out by a district officer appointed by the Minister; issue of notice of intended acquisition indicating the compensation to be paid for any damage caused during investigations; issue of notice of acquisition of land or servitude for a public purpose.
This Ordinance regulates the alienation of State land. For this purpose, it makes provision for the appointment of a Land Commissioner who shall be responsible for the general supervision and control of all Government Agents and land officers in the administration of State land and in the exercise of the powers conferred upon them by the Ordinance.Chapter IV establishes conditions and principles governing the alienation by permit or grant and the criteria for the calculation of the annual payment.
