La maca (Lepidium meyenii) es una raíz andina a la cual se le atribuyen propiedades energéticas y estimulantes. En los últimos años el interés de mercados asiáticos dio lugar al “boom de la maca”, incrementando los precios y provocando la rápida conversión de pastizales altoandinos en tierras de cultivo, transformando de esta manera el paisaje, el ecosistema, la economía y la sociedad rural de la zona altoandina de Junín.

Yield trials with farmers and acceptance surveys were conducted in Colombia in 1969-1970 to assess the potential use of opaque-2 maize in the tropical regons of the country. Yields were variable, particularly from one farm to another. In spite of this variability which may have confused the results, and analysis of variance was applied, using farms as replications.

This paper reviews the literature on the participation of women and children in agricultural activities in Latin America and the Caribbean. The review focuses on participation through labor in agriculture overall and in certain agricultural activities in particular. Also reviewed are the rural family`s access to and capacity for decision-making on resources. Factors influencing such participation are analyzed, such as farm size, land ownership, income levels, racial origin, and destiny of production.
