    This Act makes provision with respect to the recognition of tribes and certain matters regarding the administration of tribes, i.e. the institution of traditional leadership by a person designated by the tribe and recognized by the Minister.The Act, among other things, sets out the procedures for the designation and recognition of traditional leaders, provides for appeal against decisions of the Minister, defines the functions of traditional leaders, defines the jurisdiction of courts in matters of administration of tribes and defines regulation-making powers of the Minister.

    This Act provides for the granting of various rights relative to prospecting and mining of minerals, for environmental obligations related to mining operations and other duties of persons carrying out mining operations, and control of mining operations. “Minerals” is defined so as to exclude petroleum ,as defined in section 2 of the Petroleum (Exploration and Production) Act, and public and private water when used for a primary, secondary or tertiary use, as defined in the Water Act.

    This Act makes provision for matters of partition in the relation with the development of land.It defines sectional ownership of immovable property and provides rules relative to common ownership. Development schemes shall be approved by the Director of Surveys and Mapping. The Act further provides for, among other things, formation of associations that shall govern a development scheme and common property, registration of rights and exclusive use of common properties and servitudes.

    The Act consists of 43 sections divided into 6 Parts: Preliminary (I); Central administration (II); Development Plans (III); Control of development of land and permission for development (VI); Subdivisions (V); Supplemental (VI).The Minister shall be responsible for a comprehensive policy with respect to use and development of all land in Botswana and in accordance with Development Plans made under Part III (sect. 3). The Minister may declare Planning Areas under section 4 and provisions of this Act shall apply to such areas.

    This Act provides rules for public procurement and the disposal of public assets including land.The Act prescribes that a local authority shall be responsible for the management of all procurement and disposal activities within its jurisdiction in accordance with the provisions of this Act.     This Act concerns the establishment, recognition, functioning and jurisdiction of Customary Courts and related matters. The Act also provides for the appointment of the Director of Tribal Administration and deputies for the purposes of this Act. Every Chief may submit for the consideration of the Minister recommendations for the recognition, establishment, abolition or variation in jurisdiction of customary courts within his area.

    This Act establishes the Botswana Power Corporation, defines its functions and powers and provides with respect to the organization and operations of the Corporation.The Corporation shall be responsible for the generation, transmission, supply and distribution of electricity in areas approved by the Minister in terms of legislation relating to the supply of electricity. The Act stipulates that the functions and operations of the Corporation shall be deemed to be public purposes in accordance with legislation on compulsory acquisition of land.

    This Act provides rules for the generation and supply of electricity and related matters. Generation or supply of electricity requires a licence issued by the Minister. The President may acquire, in accordance with the Acquisition of Property Act, so much land or rights over land, as he or she may consider necessary for any purpose associated with the generation or supply of electricity by a licensee. Acquisition shall be preferentially through agreement with the owner. The Act also makes provision for servitudes and access to land.
