    Recognizing the critical environmental and economic challenge of climate change that is facing the global community, the purpose of this Act is to create a regulatory scheme, a) to reduce greenhouse gas in order to respond to climate change, to protect the environment and to assist Ontarians to transition to a low-carbon economy; and b) to enable Ontario to collaborate and coordinate its actions with similar actions in other jurisdictions in order to ensure the efficacy of its regulatory scheme in the context of a broader international effort to respond to climate change.

    The purpose of this Act is to establish mechanisms to support a sustained long-term reduction of poverty in Ontario, above all of poverty of children. Section 3 establishes that not all groups of people share the same level of risk of poverty. The poverty reduction strategy must recognize the heightened risk among groups such as immigrants, women, single mothers, people with disabilities, aboriginal peoples and racialized groups.

    The present Act lays down provisions relating to the financial aspects of drainage of land. For the purpose of the present Act “drainage work” means a drainage system constructed of tile, pipe or tubing of any material beneath the surface of agricultural land, including integral inlets and outlets, for the purpose of improving the productivity of the land drained.

    Section 2 of the above-mentioned Act establishes that the Association of Ontario Land Surveyors is continued as a corporation without share capital under the name Association of Ontario Land Surveyors. The principal object of the Association is to regulate the practice of professional land surveying and to govern its members and holders of certificates of authorization in accordance with this Act and other Regulations in order that the public interest may be served and protected.
