    Spatial data are a basis in development of multipurpose cadastre. This paper aims to evaluate spatial data acquisition and management techniques for multipurpose cadastre in Ethiopia and Rwanda. The research was conducted using a qualitative research method, a review of existing literature on spatial data acquisition and management techniques for cadastral purposes. The empirical data have also been collected.

    Different government institutions in Ethiopia working on land related issues tackle and manage data and information independently, while their activities and mandates are often related or even overlapping. Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) deals with small holder rural land and until recently the Ethiopian Horticulture and Agricultural Investment Authority (EHAIA) was dealing with commercial agricultural land. Those institutions have not been able to share information each other’s data to make informed decisions.

    This Regulation concerns rural land management and rights and use of rural land in Amhara National Region. It seeks to create favourable conditions enabling the land administration system to promote long-lasting agricultural development and productivity in the regional state by causing the full implementation of the rights and obligations pertaining to the rural land holders as are stipulated under the Revised Rural Land Administration and Use Determination Proclamation.

    This Proclamation aims at improving management and utilization of land and land resources for agricultural purposes in the Southern Nations, Nationalities And Peoples' Regional State. It applies to all land that lies outside of municipal borders. The Proclamation defines the right to acquire, free of charge, rural land by peasants, pastoralists and semi-pastoralists engaged in agriculture and the equal rights of women with respect to land and provides for the protection of such rights.

    This Proclamation amends the Authentication and Registration of Documents' Proclamation so as to, among other things: require the Notary Offices established in Addis Ababa and Dire Daws cities to perform their functions under the directions of the Ministry of Justice; define regulation-making powers of Regional states in respect of regional notary offices and related matters in their respective regions and the Council of Ministers with respect to Addis Ababa and Dire Dawa cities.

    This Proclamation provides for the registration of documents. It shall apply to documents authenticated and registered by organs of the Regional Government authorized by respective Regional laws and other specified state organs. The Proclamation, among other things, defines notarial activities and duties of notaries. It also specifies documents that shall not have legal effect unless they are authenticated and registered. Regional authorities shall establish notary offices and there shall be federal notary offices in n Addis Ababa and Dire Dawa.
