    The decision to conduct a Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs) survey was reachedafter thecompletion of the2020 Voluntary National Review (VNR) for The Gambia.It was realized thatthecountry was able to reporton only 52%of SDG indicators. The Gambia Bureau of Statistics(GBoS)in collaboration with the Directorate of Development Planning (DDP) of the Ministry ofFinance and Economic Affairs (MoFEA) with financial support from the United NationsDevelopment Programme (UNDP) Country Officedecided to take on this task of updatingthestatus of the indicators.

    The Maghreb's oases systems provide a major contribution to the region's food security, economy and natural resources. Despite this potential, oasis ecosystems are threatened by a range of complex factors related to the expansion of agricultural land and increasing scarcity of water resources. The project, implemented by FAO in Tunisia, Morocco and Mauritania from May 2016 to December 2019, brought together key stakeholders to address the lack of available information on the status of oases and to advocate on factual bases shared by all stakeholders and verifiable in the field.

    The Miombo woodland is a vast African dryland forest ecosystem covering close to 2.7 million km2 across southern Africa (Angola, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe). The woodlands are characterized by the dominance of Brachystegia species, either alone or in association with Julbernardia and Isoberlinia species.     Over the past decades, progress towards Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) in Africa has been made at national and subregionallevels. At national level, 43 African countries have developed specific forest law and 40 have a national forest policy. At subregionallevel, efforts to harmonize policies and programmeshave resulted in the development of the Convergence Plan of the Central African Forests Commission and the Convergence Plan for the Sustainable Management and Use of Forest Ecosystems in West Africa.
