    La raza Castellana se halla distribuida por distintas áreas de la Comunidad de Castilla y León, si bien la mayor parte de su censo se encuentra en comarcas del oeste de la provincia de Zamora. Raza de doble actitud carnicera y lechera, su explotación se halla orientada mayoritariamente a la producción de carne, si bien los escasos rebaños inscritos en el libro genealógico se hallan dedicados a la producción lechera.

    The loss of reactive nitrogen from agriculture into the environment is a major threat to the global environment and a challenge for agri-environmental policy. We therefore investigate the problem of reducing nitrogen losses from agriculture into the environment from an economic perspective. Based on a recursive-dynamic linear programming model, our study reveals that the above difficulty is primarily due to the rigidities associated with the nutrientforage cycle and existing production structures.

    In 2003 a research study looked at the position of smallholders; the survey was carried outusing questionnaires and interviews. The 613 farms included in the survey were situated in 3counties in the Southern Great Plain of Hungary and in 3 counties of the Western part of thecountry (Transdanubia). The results of the survey showed that there was a firm tendency ofconcentration among the Hungarian individual farms. Though their average size is about 3 ha,the number and area of farms over 50 ha size are rapidly growing and taking a significant partof the total individual agricultural area.

    In Romania, farm restructuring is an ongoing process, largely conditioned by the legal frameworkthat accompanied the land reform during the transition period. After 1990, Romanian agricultureexperienced critical shifts in farming structures, reflected also in the production ones. Whilearable land represents 63% of the UAA, a restrictive production factor in developing acompetitive agriculture resides in the fact that 61.7% of total arable land is utilized in excessivelyfragmented family farms – 14303 thousands plots.
