Water - Source of food security. World Food Day: 16 October 2002.<p></p>Water and food security are intimately connected. Many of the over 800 million people in the world who still go hungry live in water-scarce regions. When FAO launched its Special Programme for Food Security in 1994, it was well aware that limited access to water was often a major constraint to increasing food production.

L’objectif du présent rapport est d’offrir un cadre conceptuel permettant de faire face aux problèmes de sécurité alimentaire dans une situation de pénurie d’eau pour l’agriculture. Il a été préparé par une équipe de spécialistes de la FAO et de consultants dans le cadre du projet «Faire face à la pénurie d’eau – le rôle de l’agriculture», et a été examiné à l’occasion d’une réunion de consultation des experts organisée à la FAO, Rome, du 14 au 16 décembre 2009 sur le même sujet.

Evaluation of FAO’s Contribution to Cambodia. Although Cambodia is rapidly transitioning to a more industrialised economy, the country is still among the poorest in Southeast Asia, and the risk of sliding back into poverty remains high, especially for rural households. The goal of FAO’s programme in Cambodia has been to contribute to the eradication of poverty, food insecurity and malnutrition while promoting sustainable natural resource management. The 2018 country programme evaluation highlighted FAO’s comparative advantage – as a trusted purveyor of data and technical advice.
