FAO is committed to reducing gender inequalities through its interventions, and this gender assessment has been produced as part of its broader efforts to generate evidence and knowledge in compliance with its Policy on Gender Equality. This assessment highlights the challenges, gaps and practices in the area of gender and agriculture and rural development in Georgia that need to be considered by policy-makers and project managers in their decision-making and their implementation of development interventions. The main gender inequalities in Georgia are reiterated in this assessment.

The Republic of Azerbaijan implemented during the late 1990s a land reform, which distributed the state owned agricultural land to the rural population but also led to excessive land fragmentation and small farm sizes. Agricultural and rural development is high on the political agenda in Azerbaijan and is seen as an important sector to development as part of an overall strategy of reducing dependency on income from oil production.

This paper gives a brief overview of the existing UPFG laws and regulations and points out the issues that legislative bodies may have to consider with regard to UPFG. The objective of the paper is to give an overriding analysis of the relevant issues that need to be considered in order to analyze the legal and institutional aspects of UPFG. Taking UPFG into consideration, the legislation of several countries was assessed to illustrate the broad framework, the gaps, the overlaps and the positive examples of laws and regulations.
