    The Parties shall cooperate in the following areas related to environmental protection: land protection and land tenure, protection of soil, subsoil, forests, water, air, ozone layer and climate, wild flora and wild fauna.

    The Parties, in accordance with the national legislation of the SCO member-states, shall develop cooperation in the following areas of agriculture: (a) farming; (b) animal husbandry; (c) beekeeping; (d) veterinary medicine; (e) selection, seed production and breeding; (f) land reclamation, irrigation and agricultural irrigation; (g) processing and trade in agricultural commodities; (h) agricultural machinery and equipment; and (i) scientific research in the field of agriculture.

    This Protocol sets up Interstate council on natural and technological disasters performing the following functions: (a) assistance in organization of cooperation between the Parties in the sphere of prevention of natural and technological disasters and mitigation of the consequences thereof; and (b) drafting recommendations for improvement of legislation related to prevention of natural and technological disasters and mitigation of the consequences thereof.

    The Parties have agreed to cooperate in the following spheres: (a) integration of early warning systems and emergency intervention systems; (b) joint participation in the international organizations and programs; (c) liability of each Party for the outbreak and consequences of disasters; (d) prevention of the outbreak of disasters; and (e) autonomous decision-making at the national level.

    The Contracting Parties shall strictly cooperate in the sphere of rational management and protection of river Selenga against pollution, clogging up and exhaustion for the prevention of negative impact thereof (art. 1). The forms of cooperation shall be: (a) data collection, reporting and exchange of information on water basin of river Selenga; (b) seasonal inspection for the determination of water quality and water quantity; (c) elaboration of general water protection scheme; (d) use of waterworks; (e) prevention of soil erosion caused by water (art. 2).

    The Parties have agreed that Kyrgyzstan shall concede to Kazakhstan land areas on the coastline of Issyk-Kul lake for the period of 49 years for recreational water uses. The Government of Kazakhstan shall pay lease in the form of land charges to the amount of land charges set forth for residents on the territory of Kyrgyzstan. The Government shall prevent environmental pollution, ensure greening of the territory and grant access to recreational water area to the local residents.

    The Parties have agreed to apply boundary survey in the middle of the main channel or in the middle of the main branch of the boundary rivers. The exact position of the main channel or of the main branch of the boundary rivers shall be established in the process of border demarcation and shall be mapped. Appurtenance of the islands shall be established in accordance with the position of the main channel or the main branch of border river. The Parties shall also demarcate air space and subsoil.

    The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) - currently ratified by 187 countries - is the only human rights treaty that deals specifically with rural women (Art. 14). Adopted in 1979 by the United Nations Generally Assembly, entered into force in 1981. The Convention defines discrimination against women as follows:
