    Se describen los resultados obtenidos durante 1981 por la seccion de Microbiologia del Suelo del Programa de Pastos Tropicales del CIAT, cuyos objetivos especificos son: 1) seleccionar leguminosas forrajeras promisorias que no requieren inoculacion; 2) seleccionar cepas de Rhizobium para leguminosas que si necesitan inoculacion; y 3) evaluar el efecto de las tecnicas de inoculacion y practicas de manejo de pastos en la nodulacion y fijacion de N en el campo. Se presentan los resultados de 1) expt.

    Se describen ensayos destinados a reducir los costos del establecimiento de pasturas y a la observacion de la distribucion espacial de las especies asociadas. Se sembraron Andropogon gayanus, Desmodium ovalifolium, Stylosanthes capitata y Pueraria phaseoloides en una sabana madura o recientemente quemada con o sin labranza y cobertura de rastrojo. D. ovalifolium y P. phaseoloides alcanzaron un cubrimiento completo en ambos tratamientos de labranza, en el ano, con tasas de P2O5 que variaron de media a alta.

    The progress achieved by CIAT's cassava program through training activities related to the crop in Latin America, Asia, and Oceania are given. In collaboration with the training office at the Centro Internacional de Agricultura Tropical, the cassava program in 1980 trained 38 professionals from 15 countries (Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Bolivia, USA, Thailand, Dominican Republic, S. Africa, Ecuador, Haiti, Honduras, W. Germany, the Netherlands, Great Britain, and Italy).
