Target 1.4 of the UN Sustainable Development
This target’s inclusion under SDG Goal 1, on “ending poverty in all its forms,” signifies a new global recognition that secure land tenure should be a central strategy in combating poverty. However, this land agenda has not been prominent in recent SDG reporting processes of governments.
Degradation of forests can have severe negative local impacts and far-reaching consequences, including soil erosion, loss of biodiversity, greenhouse gas emissions, dust storms, diminished livelihood opportunities and reduced yields of forest products and services. Reversing the adverse conditions requires urgent and scaled-up action, through scientific and holistic landscape-level restoration approaches, balancing both socio-economic and environmental goals and the diverse needs of various sectors and stakeholders in the landscape.
This country profile describes the state of the water resources and water use, as well as the state of agricultural water management in India. The aim of this report is to describe the particularities of the country and the problems met in the development of the water resources, and irrigation in particular.
This publication discusses the relevance to land and agriculture of the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGP BHR), and provides an overview of the state of the UNGP BHR’s implementation in Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Nepal, and the Philippines. Current land management approaches focus on achieving ecological resilience for natural resources and biological diversity, and socioeconomic resilience for the people who depend on the land for their livelihoods and wellbeing. In the Hindu Kush Himalayan region, landscapes extend across national boundaries and their effective management requires cooperation among the countries sharing the transboundary area, particularly in light of the impacts being experienced from a wide range of drivers of change, including climate change.

IN response to an on-line survey, 76 project leaders and staff gave CPWF Phase 1 a
generally favorable review. Respondents came from 68 CPWF projects in 45 countries on
three continents. The survey sought to help learn what went well in Phase 1, what did not
go so well and can be improved in Phase 2.
