Sustainable Development Goal 1, ending poverty in all its forms, everywhere, is the most ambitious goal set by the 2030 Agenda. This Goal includes eradicating extreme poverty in the next 12 years, which will require more focused actions in addition to broad-based interventions. The question is: How can we achieve target 1.1 and overcome the many challenges that lie ahead? By gaining a deeper understanding of poverty, and the characteristics of the extreme rural poor in particular, the right policies can be put in place to reach those most in need.
En muchas partes del mundo la escasez cada vez mayor de agua y el mal uso de agua dulce plantea graves problemas al desarrollo sostenible. Como más de dos tercios del agua que se toma de los ríos, lagos y acuíferos de la tierra se destinan al riego, la agricultura se considera una válvula de seguridad del sistema. El capítulo especial de este año sobre política hídrica y agricultura analiza las repercusiones en las políticas de una mayor competencia, los conflictos, la escasez, el desperdicio, e l exceso de explotación y la degradación de los recursos hídricos.

En la 10.a edición de El estado de los bosques del mundo se desarrolla una verdad fundamental: los bosques, la actividad forestal y los productos forestales contribuyen de forma decisiva al desarrollo sostenible. El estado de los bosques del mundo se publica cada dos años. A lo largo de la historia, la deforestación ha acompañado el desarrollo económico. El concepto de desarrollo sostenible surgió y evolución dentro de la ciencia forestal fundamentalmente en respuesta a la deforestación.
The present paper is a non-academic and thus, hopefully, unpretentious, attempt at reviewing the literature on the the role of local institutions and their interaction in disaster risk mitigation (DRM). What will be found on the following pages is a non-exhaustive compendium of strengths and limitations of local institutions involved in DRM and some suggestions for tapping the former and tackling the latter.
