    This Act provides rules relative to acquisition of land and other property by the State for public purposes.It sets out procedures and conditions for acquisition either by agreement or on the basis of unilateral action by the Commissioner of Lands. In both cases, a declaration of the Minister regarding the necessity of acquisition for public purposes is required. The Act also makes provision with respect to temporary occupation of private land and appeal to Court against decisions of the Commissioner.

    This Act makes provision for the recording of certain legal deeds and patents and the effect of such recording and prescribes penalties for the selling or mortgaging of land, tenements and hereditaments twice.The Act sets out certain conditions for a transfer of any freehold or inheritance and defines the legal effect in terms of evidence of the recording of deeds at the Record Office. The Act also provides for the recording of full satisfaction obtained by a mortgagee of any lands or tenements.

    This Act shall apply to every undertaking authorized by any subsequent enactment (called “Special Statute”) which shall authorize the purchase or taking of lands for such undertaking and this Act shall be incorporated with such enactment. All the clauses and provisions of this Act, save so far as they shall be expressly varied or excepted by any such enactment, shall apply to the undertaking authorized thereby, so far as the same shall be applicable to such undertaking, and shall form part of such enactment, and be construed together therewith as forming one enactment.

    This Act allows owners or occupiers of land for cultivation to pledge crops growing on the land and other produce originating from the land as security for agricultural loans. The Act defines the effect of the pledge and requires contracts to be recorded with the Record Office. The Act also defines powers of creditors in relation with recovery of loans and defines the offence of fraud by the borrower.
