- Pourtant, les terrains de pâturage extensifs, que les éleveurs appellent kijana, existent dans un vide juridique : légalement, ils ne sont ni terres de propriétés non titrées, ni terres à statuts spécifiques.
- Le kijana est un ensemble multifonctionnel de plusieurs types d’unités d’occupation du sol qui assurent des services diversifiés pour les troupeaux et pour les éleveurs.

Owing to the fact that women have different knowledge, access to, and control over resources, and different opportunities to participate in decisions regarding resource use and management from men, the study focuses on gendered differences in livelihood strategies, identifying factors that preclude women from benefitting in livelihood projects and accessing livelihood resources. Qualitative data for the study was collected through gender disaggregated group discussions in two districts, Mvomero and Kongwa in Tanzania.

This paper uses empirical data from households and community surveys and case studies, to examine the role, strengths, and limits of social capital in managing conflicts over the use and management of natural resources.
