    Les perturbations climatiques, l’évolution démographique et les sécheresses des dernières décennies, ont contribué à une rupture d’équilibre entre les systèmes de production pastorale et agricole, au détriment des pasteurs. À côté de ce contexte écosystémique, d’autres facteurs viennent aggraver la situation pastorale dans le Sahel, en particulier le rétrécissement de l’espace pastoral, grignoté par l’expansion des terres agricoles.

With less than 20 percent of landholdings in Uganda currently registered;land governance is at the forefront of a profound change as customary land is demarcated and registered.     In June 2018;the President of Burkina Faso enacted a new agriculture investment code;aiming at promoting productive investments in livestock;fisheries;forestry and fauna management. It establishes an enabling environment and creates incentives to boost investment in the targeted sectors. Despite some shortcomings that can be fixed through implementation;the code is an important step in the right direction to attract responsible investment.

    Land degradation exacerbates the unique vulnerabilities of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) to environmental challenges, such as climate change, flash floods, soil erosion, lagoon siltation, coastal erosion and sea level rise, undermining their economic potential. Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in SIDS, preserving biodiversity and increasing resilience to climate change. Land degradation has a strong negative impact on climate-sensitive sectors like agriculture, water resources management and coastal zone management.
