The aim of this paper is to consolidate lessons from existing evidence that demonstrates the role of equitable access and tenure security to land in achieving sustainable food systems transformation, and subsequently, for the overall achievement of the SDGs. It makes the case of the importance of reforming and securing access and tenure rights to land and natural resources.
L'année 2019 a marqué le début de la Décennie des Nations Unies pour l'agriculture familiale 2019-2028 (DNUAF), la résolution (A/RES/72/239) approuvée à l'unanimité par l'Assemblée générale des Nations Unies (ONU) en décembre 2017 comme preuve du grand intérêt du sujet a soulevé dans les pays et dans l'agenda international et en soulignant que l'agriculture familiale est la pierre angulaire pour faire face aux grands défis de l'humanité.
El presente informe sistematiza los resultados del Diálogo Independiente Regional llevado a cabo el 12 de mayo para recoger aportes de diversos actores para la Cumbre de la ONU sobre los Sistemas Alimentarios 2021, con el objetivo de que la comunidad vinculada al tema de la tierra haga llegar su voz a este importante espacio.
Este documento resume las propuestas de 75 personas, 50 mujeres y 25 hombres, representantes de organizaciones de la agricultura familiar, organizaciones campesinas e indígenas, movimientos por la agroecología, organismos de Naciones Unidas, ONG locales e internacionales; organizaciones de zonas urbanas y rurales, y universidades.
In 2015 we celebrated world leaders’ recognition of the foundational and strategic role that secure land rights for all –women and men, regardless of ethnicity, religion, place of residence, or civil, economic, social, or political status—must play to achieve a world free of poverty, hunger and systemic gender discrimination.
Women's access to land is a fundamental factor in food security. Yet women all over the world suffer under discriminatory property and inheritance laws and customary practices which restrict their rights over the land on which they live and work. Articles 15 and 16 of CEDAW state the rights of women to property and inheritance. This report is a tool to help non-governmental organisations and multilateral agencies in advocacy and policy dialogue using CEDAW and the Optional Protocol (which allows individuals and groups to make complaints directly to the CEDAW committee).
The food security of more than 80% of Tanzania’s population and the country’s economic growth depend on family farming on certifi ed village lands. Realizing importance of smallholder’s roles in food security and economic development, the government introduced Village Land Use Planning (VLUP) as a tool towards sustainable family farming in support of green growth – a strategy for sustainably improving productivity within degrading natural resources.
Ill advised, uncoordinated, and badly planned interventions have been blamed for continuing poverty and food insecurity in rangelands. Water interventions in particular have had negative impacts. Not only have these interventions failed to improve the livelihoods of people living there, but in many cases they have served to undermine them and the environment on which they depend. Rangeland development interventions have been sectoral in their approach.
This Issue Paper No.2 is part of the series Making Rangelands Secure, a learning initiative supported by ILC, IFAD, RECONCILE, IUCN-WISP and Procasur. The Making Rangelands Secure Initiative has been established by a group of organisations seeking to improve security of rights to rangelands. The initiative seeks to identify, communicate and build good practice on making rangelands secure for local rangeland users.
