    The FAO Country Programming Framework (CPF) for the Pacific Sub-Region is a five year strategic program framework covering the period 2013-2017. It details outcomes and outputs in four priority result areas to which FAO assistance will be focused to address the development challenges and national priorities in thirteen Pacific Island Countries and one Territory, namely Cook Islands, Fiji, Federated States of Micronesia, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Marshall Islands, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.

    The outlook paper for Lao PDR reviews the state of the forestry sector and draws attention to the need for political commitment to the forestry strategy 2020 to bring the forests in the country under sustainable management and provide a firm basis for rural development. Without significant policy support, forest and forestry in Lao PDR will continue to be overwhelmingly influenced by the regional resource economy during the next decade.

Other sections describe the challenges facing the region and present solutions in support of food security and poverty alleviation while protecting the region's natural resource base.

    Living aquatic resources play a fundamental role in sustaining the livelihoods of many of the rural poor in Asia, providing crucial buffers to shock and food insecurity, and offering opportunities for diverse and flexible forms of income generation. As with any production-based intervention, the poorest groups face significant constraints to entry into aquaculture. However, aquaculture offers many opportunities for livelihood benefits that other sectors do not. Aquaculture technologies appropriate for poor people are now largely in place.

    World agriculture: towards 2015/2030 is FAO’s latest assessment of the long-term outlook for the world’s food supplies, nutrition and agriculture. It presents the projections and the main messages. The projections cover supply and demand for the major agricultural commodities and sectors, including fisheries and forestry. This analysis forms the basis for a more detailed examination of other factors, such as nutrition and undernourishment, and the implications for international trade.
