    ABSTRACTED FROM EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: This report highlights important dimensions of food security in rural Lao PDR, including: the different gender roles in agriculture; reliance on community-level social cohesion as both a coping mechanism and means of livelihood; and the ongoing challenge of shifting rural livelihoods from a subsistence basis towards market-orientation. The findings of this report give a snapshot of rural livelihoods and practice.

Yet, within the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, these gender dynamics are frequently disregarded. In Vietnam, rice is intimately linked to the country’s food security. Over the last decade, rice export levels, production methods, and local and global market prices have remained constant preoccupations for governmental and development agencies.

Women across the developing world are consistently less likely to own land, have fewer rights to land, and the land they do own or have access to is of lower quality in comparison to men

    ABSTRACTED FROM THE GENERAL COMMENTS SECTION: The RGC in its combined 2010 Fourth and Fifth National Report (the ―RGC Report‖) on the Implementation of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women in Cambodia, makes specific reference to provisions in the Constitution and the Penal Code 1, claiming that the existence of these provisions in and of themselves, alongside plans to pass additional laws, guarantees full equality of women with men in the protection and enjoyment of human rights, as well as protection from all forms of discrimination.

This is followed by recommendations for various key actors who are involved in ensuring the related compliance.

This study report examines contemporary women’s access to land across ten provinces outside of these traditional narratives. The majority of the world’s poor live in rural areas and have labour and land as their only or main productive assets. Therefore, promoting secure access to and control and use of land as well as secure and productive employment and decent work for women and men in rural areas is vital to achieving MDG1.
