    Il existe en Tunisie deux régimes d'immatriculation foncière. Le régime facultatif institue par la loi foncière du 1er juillet 1885 (abrogée et remplacée placée le 12 février 1965 par le "Code des droits réels") et régime obligatoire promulgué par le décret-loi du 20 février 1964 instituant "Immatriculation foncière obligatoire et gratuite".

    The system of registration "based on the above principles has the following characteristics: Each accurately delimited property is inscribed in a land register under a. name and number and with topographical and legal data which show clearly and accurately the right of its owner. The real right of charges^ transfers of ownership and changes concerning a property are indicated in the land registers which constitute in short, the complete and detailed record of each registered property.

    The origins of the cadastre in Tunisia go back to the Roman occupation. The vestiges of a Roman cadastral system were first brought to light through examination of plans and topographical maps established from ground surveys; from this examination it was possible to determine the characteristics of both the orientation of the lines arid the dimensions of the grid.

Au début, la découverte de vestiges de cadastration romaine a pu se faire grâce a l'examen de plans et cartes topographiques levés par des procédés terrestres; cet examen a permis de tirer les caractéristiques de ‘orientation des lignes et des dimensions du carroyage.
