    This article engages recent debates over gentrification and urban displacement in the global South. While researchers increasingly suggest that gentrification is becoming widespread in “Southern” cities, others argue that such analyses overlook important differences in empirical context and privilege EuroAmerican theoretical frameworks.

    Smallholder irrigation expansion would signi cantly increase agricultural production, and reduce food insecurity and poverty levels in East Africa. This paper reviews literature on trends, constraints and opportunities of smallholder irrigation in four East African countries: Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. Irrigation development has been slow in these countries, and has been mainly through traditional schemes.

    The main objective of the Senegal
    Country Environmental Analysis (CEA) is to reinforce the
    ongoing dialogue on environmental issues between the World
    Bank and the Government of Senegal. The CEA also aims to
    support the ongoing Government implementation of a strategic
    results-based planning process at the Environment Ministry
    (MEPNBRLA). The main goal is to enable Senegal to have the
    necessary tools to attain the Millennium Development Goals

It also explores how these approaches can be institutionalized to achieve a larger scale and ensure sustainability. The key features of each approach are described and their application illustrated through two actual cases
