La conservation et la gestion durable de la forêt font partie des grandes priorités de développement de Madagascar. Néanmoins, la problématique de la déforestation et de la dégradation des forêts reste cruciale pour diverses raisons, liées notamment au contexte socioéconomique du pays, à la gouvernance des ressources naturelles et à la politique de développement.
El manual proporciona información sobre los procedimientos que siguen las brigadas de campo para realizar el establecimiento de los conglomerados y parcelas permanentes del Inventario Forestal Nacional (IFN). Asimismo, suministra información acerca de la planificación y ejecución de cada una de las fases que contempla el operativo, describe los métodos, técnicas e instrumentos que se emplean en la toma de los datos, y detalla el proceso de diligenciamiento de los formatos creados por IDEAM para registrar los datos e información de campo.
En 2003, la Unión Europea (UE) lanzo el Plan de acción sobre aplicación de las leyes, gobernanza y comercio forestal (Plan de acción FLEGT) para combatir la tala ilegal de madera, promover el consumo y la producción de madera de origen legal y, en última instancia, contribuir al manejo forestal sostenible y la reducción de la pobreza.
Land-use planning is increasingly being recognized as a central part of the formulation and implementation of strategies to reduce deforestation and forest degradation, contributing to both climate change mitigation and adaptation. Conflicting interests and competition over land and resources have been major driving forces of forest conversion, with increasing pressure due to population growth, degradation of lands, economic interests and, not least, the impact of climate change.
Over the past decades, progress towards Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) in Africa has been made at national and subregionallevels. At national level, 43 African countries have developed specific forest law and 40 have a national forest policy. At subregionallevel, efforts to harmonize policies and programmeshave resulted in the development of the Convergence Plan of the Central African Forests Commission and the Convergence Plan for the Sustainable Management and Use of Forest Ecosystems in West Africa.
Wildlife management is the focus of considerable international debate because of its importance for biodiversity conservation, human safety, livelihoods and food security. Local people have been managing wildlife for millennia, including through hunting. Sufficient examples are presented in this edition to show that sustainable wildlife management is also feasible in the modern era.
This fact sheet presents a course that has been developed to guide countries in reporting on indicators 15.1.1 and 15.2.1. It illustrates the rationale of the indicators, the definitions and methodologies on which monitoring activities are based, and explains the process and the tools available for compiling data related to the two indicators through the Global Forest Resource Assessment (FRA) Programme.
