Estos cambios parecen estar afectando a la mayoría de las ciudades latinoamericanas. Están vinculados con las políticas de liberalización de los mercados de suelo y con los procesos de globalización económica y cultural de las últimas décadas.

    The forests on Barreiras formations are located in fragmented areas extending from the Rio Grande do Norte State to north of Rio de Janeiro State. In the north of Rio de Janeiro State, the "Mata do Carvão" (1053 ha) is the largest remaining fragment. This study describes the structure and floristic composition of a remnant forest on tertiary tabuleiros and its main aim was to compare this forest with other "tabuleiro" and Atlantic forest remnants in the region.

    The purpose of this work was to adapt the MicroLEIS - Land Evaluation Information System developed in Spain to the Brazilian Southeast conditions. Twelve (12) variables were considered, as follows: A - Relief Factor: 1) Slope; B - Soil Factor: 2) Effective depth, 3) Texture, 4) Stoniness, 5) Drainage, 6) Salinity; C - Erosion Factor: 7) Erodibility, 8) Slope, 9) Vegetation density, 10) Rainfall erosivity; D - Bioclimatic Deficiency Factor: 11) Frost, 12) Available water. For each of them, the control parameters were changed, according to conditions of the soils of the State of São Paulo.

    Community managed forest systems embody a considerable portion of the wisdom, knowledge, and practical skills and management necessary for the sustainability of forest resources globally. These systems, however, are under threat in many ways, including from the rapid rate of change of their political, socio-economic, and biophysical contexts. Adapting forest management sufficiently quickly and effectively to meet these changes is both urgent and very challenging.

    O MOVIMENTO DOS Trabalhadores Rurais Sem Terra, também conhecido como Movimento dos Sem Terra ou MST, é fruto de uma questão agrária que é estrutural e histórica no Brasil. Nasceu da articulação das lutas pela terra, que foram retomadas a partir do final da década de 70, especialmente na região Centro-Sul do país e, aos poucos, expandiu-se pelo Brasil inteiro. O MST teve sua gestação no período de 1979 a 1984, e foi criado formalmente no Primeiro Encontro Nacional de Trabalhadores Sem Terra, que se realizou de 21 a 24 de janeiro de 1984, em Cascavel, no estado do Paraná.
