This paper examines the evolution and the nature of the current forms of land tenure in Masindi District and the extent to which these forms impair or facilitate positive socio-economic changes. Such an examination is vital in light of the fact that there exists no convincing empirically grounded studies on the impact of the official land policies on the relationships between forms of land tenure, social structure and agricultural production.

In the developed countries less than 20 per cent of the population is engaged in agriculture. The rest is employed in the industrial sector. In the underdeveloped countries less than 10 per cent of the population is employed in the industrial sector and the rest is engaged in agriculture. At once this dictates that, for some time to come, the route to development in the latter countries will depend on agriculture, which also mainly depends on land policy and tenure. The land question is a contradiction in land rights and consequential social, economic and political abuses replicated on it.

The formal and the informal milk marketing subsystems are also discussed. The efficiency of butter-making was measured. Dairying among the Borana is controlled by the women. Overall, 69 percent of milk produced was used as fresh milk and the remainder was soured for direct consumption or butter processing.

The intent of this study was to examine the impact of
changing land use patterns on the numbers and distribution
of livestock and wild herbivores in the Tana River District,
    Kenya.
A multi-method approach of aerial surveys,
questionnaires, interviews and secondary data sources were
    employed to realize the objectives.
Results indicate that changes in land use patterns and
types have created conflicts that led to the reduction of
the range and affected distribution of pastoral livestock

This paper describes the environmental degradation that has occurred in Kenya since early this century, initially due to the introduction of plantation farming. Forests have been further targeted for farmland, fuel wood, building materials and hardwood species. Range land species have also become threatened due to continued infiltration of the population. The discussion considers the efforts of the Kenyan government to legislate and administrate against the further loss of natural resources and the consequent development of environmental awareness among the populace.
