    Since the establishment of the FAO Representation in the Republic of the Gambia in 1978, FAO has provided vital support<p></p>to the development of agriculture and natural resource sectors in the country. The Organization has implemented more than<p></p>120 projects, also facilitating policy formulation and the development of programmes and projects to improve production,<p></p>productivity, food quality and national technical and institutional capacities.

    Oman

    Oman enjoys a dynamic partnership with FAO, which was strengthened in 2012 with the opening of the FAO country<p></p>representation. Cooperation has focused on sustainable development of the food, agriculture and fisheries sectors, while<p></p>ensuring the efficient and sustainable use of natural resources. FAO’s support also focuses on the achievement of value added in<p></p>the priority areas identified by Oman.

    Comoros

    Since Comoros joined the Organization in 1977, a variety of interventions have been delivered across the food and agriculture sector. Assistance has included capacity building, institutional strengthening and policy formulation as well as direct support to development projects. Current cooperation efforts are geared towards increasing agricultural production, particularly food products, and protecting natural resources – with an emphasis on agroforestry development. Strengthening agricultural data collection and information systems is another priority area.

    Geographical indication (GI) schemes can play a special role in promoting sustainable rural development, improving farm income and opening new export potential. Natural factors such as soil, climate and plant varieties play a major role in producing a unique product. Usually, GIs comprise knowledge and skills passed on from generation to generation, helping to protect local heritage. This report is a synthesis of the five national reviews of the legal and institutional frameworks in Armenia, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, the Republic of Moldova, and the Russian Federation.

    FAO and Namibia have had an established partnership for more than 25 years. The most important objectives of the FAO<p></p>in Namibia are to help eliminate hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition; to make agriculture, forestry and fisheries more<p></p>productive and sustainable; and to reduce rural poverty. In Namibia, FAO supports the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Forestry<p></p>in the development of programmes that will lead to sustainable food security, nutrition and the eradication of poverty.

    Haiti, Dominican Republic

    Long before opening a country office in Santo Domingo in 1979, FAO provided technical and financial assistance to the Dominican Republic to boost development of its agriculture, fisheries and forestry sectors. Over the years, the Organization has implemented a large number of interventions covering a wide range of areas, including food security and nutrition, plant and animal health, sustainable natural resource use, forest management and institutional development.

    Angola, Chile, Peru

    Angola and FAO have engaged in close cooperation since the country joined the Organization in<p></p>1977. Owing to the 27-year civil war, early FAO interventions were focused on emergency assistance,<p></p>including resettling of vulnerable rural households and the provision of agricultural inputs for the<p></p>rapid resumption of food production.
