Tomatoes have the largest share among fruits and vegetables, which add substantially to thegross agricultural product in Turkey. We describe the structure and development of this sectorfrom the year 1990 onwards, covering farms in primal production, trade facilities, processingfirms, and marketing channels. An analysis of retail prices for table tomatoes in 22 provincesand their dynamics follows.

It is known that erosion is a leading factor in land degradation. Therefore, erosion must be correctly estimated and effective precautions must be taken for a sustainable agricultural activity. Hence, many models and methods have been developed for estimation of soil erodibility or calculating of quantity of the soil loss. In the present paper, using of fuzzy logic based models were examined in soil erosion prediction studies. For this goal, binary logic was described and then the transition from the classical logic to fuzzy logic has been studied.

The effective use of natural resources is one of the important issues of today. GIS is recently used as an effective tool for solution of complicated problems. Land use researches in landscape planning studies can be done reliably and practically by the use of GIS. Depending on the increase of demands on coastal zones, the determination of land uses and conservation of them gets more important today. Within this context, in this study, the past and the present land uses of Tekirdağ coastal zone is pointed out.

Two different soil maps prepared by different institutes at scales of 1:200 000 and 1:25 000 covering identical areas were compared to determine the accuracy of reconnaissance. These soil maps are widely used in land resources assessment studies in Turkey. They were digitized and then the map layers were compared by using GIS technology in order to assess soil properties and land characteristics. The reconnaissance soil map at the scale of 1:200 000 has the highest accuracy for the slope.

That was to perform a determination of land suitability classes for agricultural land uses in Ankara Imrahor valley and vicinity with this study. First of all detailed survey and mapping of research area was performed with aid of satellite data and topographic maps then four different soil serials and their fourteen different mapping units were described. For this units, 38 different land uses were describe as their soil and meterological properties and calculated their suitability for this region and determined and mapping their land suitability classes for agricultural purposes.

The objective of this study was to determine the most suitable method (or methods) to improve in the rangelands around Samsun-Turkey rangelands between 1993 and 1999. The 12 management treatments in this study included control, aeration, burning, herbicide application, fertilization, over-sowing, ploughing + resowing and a combination of all the treatments. A mixture of seeds consisting of alfalfa, sainfoin, smooth bromegrass, orchardgrass and blue wheatgrass was used for oversowing and in the ploughing + resowing plots.

Recently, researchers indicated great changes in the chemistry of atmosphere due to faster oxidation of soil organic carbon. The increases of greenhouse gasses especially CO2 concentration can affect climate, plant physiology, microbial activity, soil organic matter, and decomposition. Soil can be a store or source for atmospheric CO2. The amount of soil organic carbon stored in the soil or release to the atmosphere depends on net ecosystem productivity and heterotrophic respiration.

The relief of an area has significant ecological impacts on the climate, vegetation and soil properties of the same area. Relief can show variances depending on steepness, altitudes or roughness of the land surfaces in a landscape are sloppy, low or high; or; rough or smooth. In the scope of this approach, elevation, slope gradients and aspects as landscape relief characteristics in the borders of Ardahan city were evaluated for tourism and recreation use. In order o determine the relief characteristics of the landscape, Geographical Information Systems (GIS) were utilized.

The land use changes of İzmir Çeşme Coasts are determined by using remote sensing techniques in the period of 38 years. Temporal and spatial changes of land use are analyzed based on 3 land use maps which show 8 land use categories using the topographical maps and aerial photos in 1957-1976-1995. The dominancy of land use categories are calculated depending on grid map (1km x 1km). Each period of grid maps and land use maps are analyzed by spatial intersection method in GIS.
