    The Act provides for the protection of farmers whose titles to land are found to be defective. Titles to land for the purpose of farming acquired after the commencement of this Act shall be deemed extinguished if the land is not used for farming for a period of eight years (sect. 1). Where a farmer has, in good faith, acquired any land by customary law or otherwise in a prescribed area for purposes of farming in the period between 1940 and 1962, such title shall be validated notwithstanding any defect in the title (sects. 2-1). The Act does not apply to mineral oils. The Governor-General may close areas closed for prospecting. Prospected or mining is limited further under section 8.

    These Regulations implement provisions of the Timber Resources Management Act, 1997 with respect to the granting of timber rights and related matters and regulate the calculation and payment of stumpage fees and the registration and use of chainsaws.The Regulations set out the procedures for the inventory and reservation of specified lands for timber utilization. The Chief Conservator of Forests shall identify lands suitable for grant of timber utilization contracts and initiate procedures of inventory of forest resources on such land and to obtain consent of landowners.

The Act defines functions and powers of District Assemblies and provides rules for their functioning.

    This Act concerns the rights in and management of mineral resources in Nigeria. It provides rules for exploration and exploitation of resources and for the protection of the environment. It also concerns possession of mining material, small-scale mining and the protection of interests of host communities, provides incentives for mining operations and defines offences.“Minerals” excludes petroleum but includes water with mineral content. The Act establishes within the Ministry the Mines Inspectorate Department and the Mines Environmental Compliance Department and defines their functions.
