    This BMZ comissioned report by GTZ highlights the dramatic increase of land concessions and rising inequality in land distribution in Cambodia. Parts of the study refer to an earlier report by Uch Sophas “Foreign Direct Investment in Land for Biomass Production in Cambodia”. The South-East Asian country Cambodia has an area of 181,035 km2. The Government of Cambodia is adapting its activities to attract FDI, which has lead to a steady increase especially since 2007.

    A landscape simulation was designed and tested in Viengkham, a mountainous district in the north of Lao PDR. This social learning process was introduced by researchers affiliated with national research institutions to improve land use planning practices and increase the ownership of local people in the planning process. Twelve members of the village land management committees participated in the role play called PLUP Fiction, which is part of a stepwise process of participatory land use planning (PLUP).

    Armenia is geographically located in the South Caucasus and bordered by Georgia, Turkey, Azerbaijan and the Islamic Republic of Iran. The total length of its land boundaries is 1,026 km, including a 167-km border with Georgia, 268 km with Turkey, 556 km with Azerbaijan and 35 km with the Islamic Republic of Iran. The total area of Armenia is 29,800 km2, with a land area of 28,400 km2.

    Azerbaijan Republic is in the Southern Caucasus, between longitudes 444 and 522 East and latitudes 388 and 422 North. Its territory is 86,400 square km. The country has a population of 8,000,000 and borders on the Russian Federation in the North (390 km), the Iran Islamic Republic in the South (765 km), Turkey in the South-west (13 km), Armenia in the West (1,007 km) and the Georgian Republic in the North-west (480 km). Azerbaijan is on the western coast of the Caspian Sea with a coastline of 713 km.

    Over the last 14 years, substantial progress has been made in carrying forward the civil law reforms and the programs of ownership transfer in Albania. Almost all families and some juridical persons have received documentation giving ownership rights in land and housing units, and most families and enterprises now occupy and use their land premises. Major problems remain. First, there are unresolved conflicting claims to land and properties made by former owners (pre-1945) and current occupants in some villages and urban neighborhoods.
