    Sida have supported a technical assistance to 1997. The fi rst stage of this assistance has been successfully completed in 2001. According to Sida’s decision from 2001-11-05 the technical assistance was extended through the project Cadastre Project – Fiscal Cadastre and Training”. gives recommendations for a possible continuation of Sida’s support. Most of the planned project activities were completed at the time for our evaluation.

    Remotely-sensed images and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) data were integrated into the SLEUTH cellular automata (CA) model to analyze land-use/land-cover dynamics in Chiang Mai city and its surrounds. The land-use and land-cover statistics, obtained from GIS data base and satellite images from 1952, 1977, 1989 and 2000 revealed rapid increased in urbanization during these periods. To understand the underlying causes of land-use and land-cover dynamics, remote sensing, GIS and modeling techniques were applied.

    "A dramatic increase over the past fifteen years in domestic pork demand and production in the Philippines has created a potentially profitable opportunity for poor rural and agricultural households. In Southern and Central Luzon, the two biggest markets, however, smallholder pig producers hold only a minority share of total production compared to larger commercial farms. This report seeks to assess the scope for smallholders to remain in business by analyzing the relative profitability of small and large farms.

    In Rwanda, two factors make land a highly important and contested issue. First,
    Rwanda has the highest person-to-land ratio in Africa. This creates tremendous
    pressure on land in a country where most of the population lives in rural areas, and
    where agriculture remains the central economic activity. Second, Rwanda is recovering
    from massive population shifts caused by decades of ethnic strife and the 1994 civil war
    and genocide, which resulted in displaced populations and overlapping land claims.

    This is a mixed methods study on the Cambodian Cadastral Commission (CC), a body set up in June 2002 to resolve disputes involving unregistered land. It was conducted by the Center for Advanced Study in collaboration with the World Bank Justice for the Poor Program, National Cadastral Commission Secretariat and the German Development Cooperation (GTZ). The study undertakes a review of the functioning of the CC and evaluates a new case management/incentive scheme which was being piloted with the support of GTZ.

    Vietnam Land Administration system has implemented successfully the land policy in recent decades. In the next phase of socio-economic development plan, land is requested to become important domestic resources for many investment projects. Obviously, land registration needs further development so that land use rights or land use right certificate can be used as asset in the open market. In the past ten years, many improved on land registration was undertaken. Many first-look problems have been identified and fixed. The issues of Vietnam land registration are more difficult to identify.

    This paper contains a preliminary summary of key issues and findings from a desk review of
    the literature on land titling projects and programmes in urban and peri-urban areas of
    developing countries. It draws on a large number of documents, not all of which have been
    incorporated into the review at the time of writing. The present bibliography will be
    expanded in the final text of the review which is to be completed by early December 2006.
