    This report presents experiences discussed at a workshop on the use of collaborative business models in agricultural investments, which aimed to facilitate the exchange of experiences and lesson and to generate lessons from local initiatives to be fed into international processes. The focus was on agriculture defined broadly to include agri-food, biofuels, timber plantations and other agricultural commodities. Experience from other sectors, such as tourism, was included to the extent that they provided insights for agricultural investments.

    O presente relatório debruça-se sobre o processo de reassentamento de cerca de 1200 famílias dos bairros da Malanga, Luís Cabral e Gwachene resultante da construção da ponte Maputo-Ka Tembe (enquadrada no projecto Circular de Maputo), enquanto uma das componentes essenciais para o licenciamento ambiental. O reassentamento em causa está a ser implementado pela empresa Maputo Sul, entidade que tem a responsabilidade de construir a ponte e as estradas que ligam Maputo à Ka Tembe, Ponta de Ouro, e Boane à Bela Vista.

    Mozambique has become a hot spot in the global rush for land in the last decade. Growing investments in sectors such as mining, hydrocarbons, forest plantations and industrial agriculture most often target rural land held by local communities under customary law, and conflicts between communities and investors often arise. Existing laws regulating land are poorly implemented and enforced, which is due to the power imbalances existing between the government, companies and local communities.

    Research on climate change in the districts of Chókwè and Matutuíne

    The Centro Terra Viva (CTV), in partnership with the World Resources Institute (WRI), promoted the implementation of the project on ‘documentation of unplanned human responses to climate change’. This project was part of a more general WRI approach, involving other countries, to research how communities in Africa are responding to climate change and the effect of these responses on the environment and biodiversity.

Este projecto enquadrou-se numa abordagem mais geral do WRI, envolvendo outros países, para investigar de que forma as comunidades em África estão a responder às mudanças climáticas e o efeito dessas respostas no ambiente e biodiversidade.

    The NGO Centro Terra Viva (CTV) with funding from the World Resources Institute (WRI) implemented a project seeking to promote gender mainstreaming in the policies and practice of large scale land acquisitions (LSLAs) for economic investments. The study was centered on recognizing opportunities to strengthen the role and involvement of women as actors in decision-making in the resettlement process, particularly given the context of a growing economic and commercial appetite for land acquisition.
