    The report considers the causes, processes and impacts of rangeland fragmentation on pastoralists in Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda. Causes and processes include privatisation of resources, commercial investment, invasion of land by non-native plants, commercialisation including growth in individual enclosures, and conservation/National Parks. The impacts include increasing wealth divides and a growing inability to overcome and vulnerability to drought.

When this research was proposed, it was premised on arguments by scholars Ruth Meinzen-Dick and Helen Markelova, who had analysed agricultural land deals, and argued that there were potentially two schools of thought about foreign acquisitions over agricultural land.

    This report presents strategies of grassroots women's organisations in Eastern and Southourn Africa in working toward land tenure security, including home-based care and counselling, increased participation of women in government bodies, raising awareness about land issues, providing support for women's legal procedures, increasing economic security through skill development and microcredit loans as well as leadership development. The report concludes by giving some recommendations for increased effectiveness and scope for these grassroots activities.

A lei inclui boas práticas globais sobre a política de reassentamento involuntário como a compensação por perdas tangíveis e intangíveis e redes sociais dilaceradas; a preparação de um Plano de Acção para o reassentamento, que orienta o projecto de reassentamento; entre outros. Este relatório apresenta os resultados de um estudo sobre a medida na qual a igualdade de género e as questões de género são integradas na lei de 2012.
