    In 2013, South Afrika marked its 100 years without natives land. Then, Tshintsha Amakhaya (TA) - launched the Mayibuye iAfrika Campaign in 2011 at a national land reform workshop. The Campaign was intensified in 2013 - the centenary of the 1913 Native Land Act – through local actions, platform discussions, and country-wide events. The 2013 Campaign was aimed at amplifying the voices of rural women and men through supporting and connecting local struggles for land and agrarian transformation.

    Nolundi Luwaya examines how the laws affecting rural citizens in South Africa fit together. She examines the Traditional Leadership and Governance Framework Act and highlights key sections of the Act including the requirements for establishment of Traditional Councils, the status and role of traditional leaders. She reviews contested legislation including the Communal Land Rights Act, struck down by the Constitutional Court and the Traditional Courts Bill which threatened to turn rural citizens in the former bantustans into chiefly subjects.

    This is a documentary collating the experiences and stories of rural communities supported by the Association for Rural Advancement (AFRA).

    AFRA, in partnership with OZA and TA, assists women, youth and men residing or working on rural commercial farmland in the UMgungundlovu District to mobilise around key issues impacting on their quality of life and access to sustainable livelihoods, engaging with and influencing policies and processes that impact on their land and development rights.
