EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: "This assessment of the rural Dry Zone reveals the
nutrition situation to be a concern, with high
rates of wasting and medium rates of stunting, high rates of low birth weight and high rates
    of undernutrition among mothers; particularly
those who are pregnant and/or lactating. The
pattern of indicators suggests that flood plains and irrigated areas are best off,
    and the
    highlands may be worst,
but the situation is far from acceptable in the Dry Zone as a whole.

In doing so, it aims to assist public and private stakeholders who will be making the key investment and policy decisions governing future agricultural and food security trajectories in Myanmar.

This is historically high for Tanzania and comparable to the performance of fastest growing economies in sub-Saharan Africa.  GDP growth peaked in 2004 at 7.8%, but severe and prolonged drought during 2005/06 negatively affected the economy, and the GDP has been gradually recovering to reach 7.4% in 2008.
