    The land challenge is central to the broader youth dynamics of migration, employment, livelihoods and belonging. The more than 1.8 billion youth living worldwide represent not only a land challenge, but an untapped potential in moving the tenure security agenda forward. Recognizing this, the Global Land Tool Network has partnered with UN-Habitat to develop youth responsive land tools through the Youth-led Action Research on Land program. Five action research projects will be undertaken by youth organizations in Brazil, Kenya, Nepal, Yemen and Zimbabwe.

    Administrative Data for Monitoring and Improving Land Policy and Governance in India

    The study tried to assess the state of data in India, particularly to track and report two critical land governance indicators viz. women land rights and forest rights, critical to ensure equity and sustainability in terms of public policy. 
    With UN’s SDG, defining similar indicators, study  also attempts in aligning them around SDG indicators. Status of these two parameters were analyzed using nation-wide datasets collecting whole population data, through census of India, Agriculture Census  operations following robust processes and reporting them open access.

    The study examined the status of women’s land rights in India, using Agricultural Census data, with state-wise and district-wise granularity and presents tables and maps depicting women’s land rights against indicators, further segregated across ethnicity and socio-economic categories. It also reiterates necessity  to establish a robust and participatory monitoring mechanism for the status and change of women’s land rights at state, district and tehsil levels. This study was conducted by Center for Land Governance, NRMC with support from the World Bank.

    The study was commissioned by the World Bank and conducted by the Center for Land Governance, to document Odisha’s experience and the emerging best practices for Gender Equitable Land Governance (GELG). It assess and analyse the state’s efforts toward GELG in relation to the VGGT, documents the best practices, identifies challenges and suggests recommendations for policy and institutional arrangements, technical issues, capacity building and strategies.

    RCDC pursued a bio-resource governance programme during the period of 2009-11 in four tribal districts of Odisha with an objective of developing model GPs on bioresource governance. Land use being a major factor in natural resource governance, changes in land utilization, particularly forest land diversion, has been a matter of concern for these areas. In this backdrop, RCDC intended for an in-depth analysis of the dynamics of the changes in land utilization pattern in the state with focus on forest land diversion.

    Contract farming is one of the illustrated examples of the impact of globalization and liberalized economic policy in the agriculture sector. While the farm sector is facing an identity crisis amidst growing dominance of the industrial sector, contract farming helped to create a new hope in this scenario. It established a link between the farm sector and the corporate sector too. This way it created new prospects for the agricultural sector, and added to the dignity of the farmer. However, the actual practice was often not so farmer-friendly.
