The Decision on Land Tenure (Decision 26/ COP.14) by the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) recognises the importance of responsible land governance for sustainable land management and restoration, as well as for combatting desertification, land degradation and drought.
This local level land resources assessment methodology (LADA-Local) was produced within the Land Degradation Assessment in Drylands (LADA) project. Under the current challenges of food security, climate change adaptation and mitigation, further provision of ecosystem services and sustainable intensification of agriculture, soil information becomes fundamental to guide wise policies and decisions. This document reviews the present availability of soil information from legacy maps and reports and from ongoing Digital Soil Mapping efforts. Currently, the soil science community is limited in its capacity to provide accurate and updated information to the different soil users.

In many countries, pastoralism has historically been practiced in areas that are now partitioned by international boundaries. This is a major barrier to sustainable resource management and to pastoral development. However, there are examples from around the world of efforts to facilitate transboundary movements and transboundary ecosystem management by pastoralists. This report examines how pastoral mobility has been impacted by the creation of unnatural boundaries within their landscapes and how societies cope with these constraints through legal or informal arrangements.
The new land cover dataset will allow mapping of natural resources, human settlements and human activities in South Sudan and within neighboring countries. It will represent the most innovative and updated dataset developed for South Sudan, integrating high-resolution multi-temporal imagery, object-based image analysis<p></p>and machine-learning algorithms and LCML to support the Natural Resource Management strategy and land use planning.
The habitat of tsetse fly (Glossina spp.) depends upon climatic conditions, host availability and land cover characteristics. In this paper, the Land Cover Classification System (LCCS), developed by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), is proposed as a tool to harmonize land cover mapping exercises carried out in the context of tsetse and trypanosomiasis (T&T) research and control.

Public land is a resource that should be effectively managed in the public’s best interest in line with provisions of the Constitutions of Kenya and the Land Act. The management framework governing land use and development decisions on public land should ensure protection and sustainable management of the land. Despite these provisions in law, recent media reports point toresurgenceof public land grab. The Land Development and Governance Institute commissioned this research study to establish the status of the public land management in Kenya.
