    The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) - currently ratified by 187 countries - is the only human rights treaty that deals specifically with rural women (Art. 14). Adopted in 1979 by the United Nations Generally Assembly, entered into force in 1981. The Convention defines discrimination against women as follows:

    The Convention shall cover the Alpine region, as described in the Annex. The Contracting Parties shall take appropriate measures among others on population and culture, regional planning, prevention of air pollution, soil conservation and water management. The Contracting Parties shall pursue a comprehensive policy for the preservation and protection of the Alps by applying the principles of prevention, and cooperation, through the prudent and sustained use of resources.

    The present Decree updates Annexes I and II to Legislative Decree No. 36 of 2003 by inserting new provisions concerning the storage of metallic mercury considered as waste. These amendments and addenda are laid down pursuant to Directive 2011/97/EU, which amends Annexes I, II and III to Directive 1999/31/EC on the landfill of waste.

    In compliance with the principles and rules laid down in Legislative Decree No. 36 of 2003, there are hereby established the criteria and procedures for accepting waste on landfills. Installations for inert waste, hazardous waste and non hazardous waste are envisaged.

    By enacting this Decree the Regional Environmental Counsel has established the plan on hydrogeological rearrangement in the Sicilian Region. The Plan, which is attached to the Decree, defines the areas under hydrogeological risk. Only the interventions mentioned in article 2 shall be allowed, according to the various risk levels. The Plan is composed of a general report, a report concerning the territory and hydrographic basins, and cartographies.
