    The National Medium-Term Priority Framework (NMTPF) 2011-2015 builds on the experience acquired with NMTPF 20006-2010, which dealt with FAO assistance in a comprehensive way. Its overall goal is to pursue the development of sustainable agriculture, fisheries and forestry as a contribution to the eradication of extreme poverty and hunger, improving the living standards of all Cambodians, especially the poorest, most food insecure, most vulnerable, in an economically, socially and environmentally sustainable manner.

    En la presente guía se describe la aplicación práctica del modelo de la FAO de intensificación sostenible de la producción agrícola “Ahorrar para crecer” en los cultivos fundamentales para la seguridad alimentaria mundial, esto es, el maíz, el arroz y el trigo. Con ejemplos de África, América Latina y Asia, se muestra cómo los sistemas agrícolas basados en los ecosistemas están ayudando a los pequeños agricultores a incrementar los rendimientos de los cereales, fortalecer sus medios de vida, reducir la presión sobre el medio ambiente y aumentar la resiliencia frente al cambio climático.

    Following the widespread wreckage and loss of life caused by the Indian Ocean tsunami of 26 December 2004, unprecedented efforts where made to restore order and rebuild the lives and livelihoods of the millions affected. A proportion of the reconstruction and rehabilitation effort was focused on environmental rehabilitation and a part of this again on the rehabilitation of coastal trees and forests. Many programmes were implemented during the post-tsunami period to restore coastal trees and forests, and in particular mangrove forests.
