He emphasized how the type of integrative science envisaged in this Program is in line with directions envisaged for the new CGIAR.

In developing countries urban wastewater management often fails to cope with increasing wastewater generation. Financial, technical and institutional limitations force authorities to discharge substantial amounts of untreated or partially treated wastewater into surface waters. Consequently, uncontrolled use of polluted water is increasingly common in the downstream peri-urban areas. Although wastewater use bears a significant risk on human health, such use is also productive and an asset for many.

This study was conducted to characterize the production and marketing system of village chickens in Gomma Wereda of Jimma Zone. Six Kebeles were selected using multistage random sampling from each of which 30 Households (HHs) were randomly selected. A survey was conducted on the selected HHs pertaining indigenous chicken management, marketing and productivity. Fresh eggs (purchased from the household) and market eggs (purchased from the local market) were studied for quality and hatchability.

CGIAR and partner scientists met in Cancun, Mexico, with the purpose to advance science on climate change adaptation and mitigation, according to the scope of the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food security (CCAFS).
The objectives of the workshop were to (1) understand ongoing research as a foundation for future collaboration and advances, and (2) explore research that shows the highest promise for scientific breakthroughs.
