Resumo: O presente artigo tem como objetivo abordar alguns dos aspectos acerca da demarcação de terras indígenas no Brasil, em especial, o entendimento e aplicação do denominado “marco temporal” pelos tribunais, como condicionante para determinar a tradicionalidade, ou não, destas terras. Da mesma forma, serão analisados os possíveis avanços dos direitos indigenistas após a promulgação da Constituição Federal brasileira de 1988.
This article examines the conflicts arising from the Diamer Bhasha Dam project in northern Pakistan. Conflicts arising from the impacts of the dam on the local population and territory and steps to resolve some of them are identified. These impacts relate to unfair land acquisition, improper displacement, inadequate compen- sation, resettlement and future livelihoods. The completion of the project depends on the arrangement of project finance, resolution of conflicts among different actors and the consent of all stakeholders.

The purpose of this report is to identify the results, and initial impact of the land degradation component of those linkage projects which encompass biodiversity, international waters, and climate change with land degradation. The lessons learned from this review lead to recommendations on how land degradation issues should be addressed in focal area reviews, and in subsequent Global Environment Facility (GEF) activities.
