This Act establishes the Land Surveyors Board, provides for the licensing of land surveyors and disciplinary proceedings against land surveyors, defines the duties of land surveyors and provides rules for the carrying out of original surveys, re-surveys and division surveys of land and related matters.The Land Surveyors Board shall, among other things, keep a register of licensed surveyors and act as arbitrator in any dispute between a licensed surveyor and a client. Surveyors shall be licensed by a Licensing Authority as defined by this Act.

This Act makes provision with respect to small holdings i.e. any land or parcel of land with or without a dwelling house or other building erected or to be erected thereon not exceeding in all five acres in area let for agricultural purposes and of a specified maximum total value. The Act specifies the (contractual) rights of a tenant of a small holding including the use and enjoyment of all ground crops, plants, fruit trees or other trees. The Act also specifies rights of the landlord and provides with the resolution of disputes between the parties to any contract under this Act.

The authority of an arbitrator or umpire appointed by or by virtue of an arbitration agreement shall, unless a contrary intention is expressed in the agreement, be irrevocable except by leave of the Court. “Arbitration agreement” means a written agreement to submit present or future differences to arbitration.
