Lundi, le Parlement de la Sierra Leone a adopté une loi sur les droits fonciers coutumiers. “The Customary Land Rights Act 2022” devrait permettre à tout Sierra-Léonais, homme ou femme et quel que soit sa communauté d'origine, de pouvoir être propriétaire de parcelles dans son pays, rapporte Africa News. Ainsi, un minimum 30% de femmes seront exigées pour la composition de comités locaux d'utilisations des terres.
Lundi également, une autre loi a été votée tendant à mettre un terme aux conflits entre la population et les investisseurs étrangers particulièrement présents dans l’huile de palme. Habitants et ONG dénoncent régulièrement la mainmise de grands groupes sur des terres agricoles.
