Global demand for timber, agricultural commodities, and extractives is a significant driver of deforestation worldwide. Transparent land-concessions data for these large-scale commercial activities are essential to understand drivers of forest loss, monitor environmental impacts of ongoing activities, and ensure efficient and sustainable allocation of land.
This Act amends the Survey Act in provisions relating to fees for registration and other acts relating to surveying. The word "prescribed" in relation to fees is cancelled in sections 19, 19A, 19B, and 19C.
This Act amends the Physical Planning Act 1989 by repealing Paragraph (e) of section 104. Section 104(e) grants powers to the Head of State to prescribe the fees to be charged for any matter or thing under this Act.
This Act amends the Land Act in section 70 by deleting the word "prescribed". Section 70 deals with how an application for a state lease shall be made. It now reads: "An application for a State lease shall - (a) be made in the approved form, and (b) be accompanied by the fee for the registration of the application.
This Act amends the Valuation Act in provisions respecting fees. Sections 20, 23 and 25 are amended so as to change "prescribed fees" in "fees". Fees are not anymore prescribed by authority.

Since the 1970s and 1980s, community-based forestry has grown in popularity, based on the concept that local communities, when granted sufficient property rights over local forest commons, can organize autonomously and develop local institutions to regulate the use of natural resources and manage them sustainably.
Forests and trees support sustainable agriculture. They stabilize soils and climate, regulate water flows, give shade and shelter, and provide a habitat for pollinators and the natural predators of agricultural pests. They also contribute to the food security of hundreds of millions of people, for whom they are important sources of food, energy and income.
